Kasey ‘Big Dog’ Nelson

Kase Gerald Nelson loving husband, dad, son, brother, and uncle passed away Sunday, April 16, 2023 at Standish Ascension Hospital unexpectedly.

He was born on May 28, 1981 in Saginaw, Michigan to Kenneth & Janet (Gulvas) Nelson. Kasey was a graduate of the Standish Sterling High School.

He married the love of his life Samantha Miller on February 24, 2017. Kasey was a member of the Labors Union Local 1098, Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church. He worked for Dependable Sewer for six years, before that he worked at Jay’s Fruit Market.

He had a great passion for cooking, canning, and sharing recipes. He enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, and camping. He was an extremely proud father and loved spending time with his son, family, and friends. He will always be remembered as the Mayor of Pine River.

He is survived by his wife Samantha of six years, his son Kasey Nelson II, his parents Ken and Janet Nelson, a sister Kendra Adrian a brother Kenneth Nelson, brother-in-law Mike (Angela) Miller, sister-in-law Tanya Schalk and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandparents, father-in-law Ray Miller and sister-in-law Carrie Miller.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, April 21, 2023, at 11 am at the Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church with Fr. Ron Wagner presiding with inurnment in Pine River Cemetery. Friends may visit at the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home-Standish Chapel on Thursday, from 3 to 8 pm. On Friday, friends may visit at the church from 10 am until time of mass.

In lieu of flowers those wishing an expression of sympathy are asked to consider donating to a scholarship fund for his son Kasey Jr. “Little man”.
