Cecil Warren “Dollie” Chappell, age 88 of Plainfield Township, MI., passed away on April 13, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Dollie was born on January 18, 1935 in Waverly, KY. to the late Cecil and Lettie Maye (Tolley) Chappell. Dollie was 1 of 7 children. As a young man he moved to Michigan to work for the auto makers. Dollie eventually worked for the GM Chevy truck and bus line. He had 5 children with his first wife, Geraldine Chappell. She passed away in 2004. Dollie then married Janice (Davy) Chappell. He and Janice remained in the Plainfield Township area officially retiring. Dollie loved deer hunting, racoon hunting, and fishing. Dollie would often tell stories to his family of when he was a young man in Kentucky and how he provided food for his family by fishing the local waters and hunting for local game. Dollie was an excellent carpenter and he built decks on his home which became his favorite location to spend the day, watching the animals and enjoying being outside.
Dollie is survived by his wife, Janice; children, Cathy (Denny) Longley, Sharon Lavere, Julie (Allen) French, and Timothy Chappell; grandchildren, Jeremy (Melissa) Harrington, Derrick (Christine) Young, Ashlen French, Brandon Lavere, Edward, Edward Lavere, Dennis (Trisha) Longley, Edward (Mandy) Cumby, and Amber (Jeff) Hall, and many nieces and nephews.
Dollie is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Orly, Ruby, Louise; brothers, James and Thomas; first wife, Geraldine Chappell.
A 2-day service will take place at Buresh Funeral Home in Hale, MI. Visitation Tuesday April 18, 2023 4:00 – 7:00pm. Funeral Wednesday April 19, 2023 11:00am. Internment Wednesday 1:00pm at Oak Grove cemetery in South Branch / Goodar Township, MI. A luncheon will follow at the Plainfield Twp hall.
