Charlie Jenkins, 68, of Standish

Charles “Charlie” Herbert Jenkins, age 68, passed away March 5, 2023, at home, unexpectedly, with his two dogs by his side. He was born on November 5, 1954, in West Branch Michigan at Tolfree Memorial Hospital to the late Charlie and Shirley (Cook) Jenkins. Charlie was number eight of eleven children. His siblings say he was the “Test Pilot”. They would make him go down the hill before anyone else would go. They all say that Charlie was the toughest one. His sister Betty was always talking him into doing things first. There was never a dull moment with Charlie, he was a true dare devil. Charlie loved fast cars. He would street race his 1971 Torino Cobra Jet in Sterling, on Grove Road and Greenwood Road and people would come up from Flint to race him because he was competition, and always winning.

He married Debra (York) Jenkins (his now ex-wife) on March 30, 1984, in Standish Michigan. They bought a house in Pinconning and raised their two children. Charlie became a machinist in 1992 where he worked at M&M Industries. He worked with his brother Pete and they both became foreman for the shop. Pete was the day shift foreman and Charlie was the night shift foreman. Charlie worked in the shop for 23 years. He retired in 2005 and in 2006 he had a major open-heart surgery. Charlie was an avid outdoorsman who truly enjoyed hunting and fishing. He would go every chance he got. Charlie, his brothers, son and nephews went off to deer camp as often as possible and they had the best of times in the woods with each other. They have so many deer camp stories and memories that will last a lifetime. Charlie was an amazing man, one of a kind. He was a great son, brother, nephew, uncle, husband, father and grandfather. He was truly one of the best. He had a strong heart and soul. He always worked hard, was never late for anything, he cared for others and always helped where he could. Charlie may be gone from earth, but his spirit lives on and his memory remains. Gone, but never forgotten. May he rest in peace knowing that he was very much loved, and he touched so many hearts. He made his mark on earth and left behind an abundance of wonderful memories.

Charlie had two children, Tabitha and Justin, who were his whole world. He has seven grandchildren, 6 granddaughters and a grandson. Alyssa, Shannen, Arianna, Brianna, Christina, Elianna and Dennis III. He is survived by four sisters and three brothers, Betty, Barb, Amy, JoAnn, Mike, Pete and Hugh. He is preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Shirley Jenkins, one brother and two sisters, John, Martha and Sharon and his son Justin.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 11, 2023, at the Lee Ramsay Funeral Home in Standish with Pastor Kevin Switzer presiding with the burial in Sterling Cemetery.

The family would like to thank everyone for all the kind words, gifts of love, condolences and well wishes.
