Anna ‘Ann’ Coates, 90, of East Tawas

Anna “Ann” Coates, age 90, of East Tawas, Michigan passed away peacefully on February 4, 2023.

Anna was born on March 25, 1932 in Bay City to the late Ernest and Della Nash. Anna lost her mother at just three weeks old, so she and her brother were raised by their loving grandparents, Ernest and Anna Kaiser in Whittemore. She attended Whittemore/Prescott schools.

Anna had many talents, but her best included cooking, decorating cakes, baking, sewing, knitting, and crafting. She loved to play cards, gardening, birds, perch fishing with her husband, and spending quality time with her grandchildren.

She retired from the Iosco Medical Care Facility where she worked in dietary as a cook. Anna belonged to a 4H group, was a member of “Tops”, and was an active member of the Tawas Area Presbyterian Church where her and her husband helped build the new church!

She married the love of her life, Don Coates on October 10, 1948. Together they had four children and shared 69 amazing years. Anna loved her family, friends, and all the loving animals she had.

Anna is survived by her children, Della (Larry) Mills and Darlene (Mark) Moriarty; grandchildren, Jamie, Kimberly, Mark Jr., Brett, Angela, Julie, Jeff, Jennifer, and Courtney; numerous great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; special nieces, Tracy Nash and Valerie Coates, and many cousins including those in Sweden. In addition to her parents and grandparents, Anna is preceded in death by her husband, Don; son, Donald; daughter, Linda Dunlap; brother, Ernest Nash; and Uncle Ernest and Aunt Jane Kaiser.

Visitation will be held at Buresh Funeral Homes in Tawas City, Michigan, on February 9, 2023, from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 10, 2023, at the Tawas Area Presbyterian Church in East Tawas, Michigan. The family will welcome public at 10:00 AM at the church on Friday. Anna will then be laid to rest in Pioneer Cemetery in Sand Lake with her husband and son.

The family wants to give a big thank you to the employees at Tawas Village and Compassus Hospice for all the loving care Anna received when she lived at Tawas Village.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made out to The American Heart Association, The National Suicide Prevention Organization, The Parkinson’s Association, the Iosco County Animal Shelter, or the Tawas Area Presbyterian Church.
