George Major, 86, of Atlanta

Mr. George Major, 86, of Atlanta, Michigan died suddenly on December 1, 2022 at his home. He was welcomed into Heaven with open arms by his late son, George Jr. He was born in Lincoln Park, Michigan on March 21, 1936 to the late, William and Myrtis (James) Major. He served his country proudly as a paratrooper in the United States Army. George owned property in the Atlanta area since the early 70’s but moved here permanently in the 80’s after retiring from General Motors where he worked as a diesel mechanic. He was a member of the Atlanta Eagles. George had a variety of hobbies that he enjoyed including; riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, hunting, and his love for animals. In the past he volunteered at the Elk Country Animal Shelter. Above everything, family was the most important to George and he valued the time he was able to spend with them. He is and will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his children, Cindy (Dave) Wcisel of Hillman; Sandra (Joseph) Wesch of Wales; Sherry (Joe) Poteat of Palm Bay, Florida; Shelly (Darren) Jones of Wales; grandchildren, David (Amy) Wcisel Jr, Dawn (Steve) Vogel, Daryl (Katie) Wcisel, Dan (Nicole) Wcisel, Nicole (John) Aldrich, Kyle (Megan) Wesch, Joseph (Haylie) Wesch, Bradley Wesch, Alysha (Austin) Snyder, Racheul (Matt) Blount, Tyler Jones, Alex Jones, George Major III, Megan Major, and Matthew Major; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; brother, Jerry Major of Troy; sister, Barb Thornsberry; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Myrtis Major; son, George Major Jr; infant son, Timothy; and numerous siblings.

Funeral services for Mr. Major will take place at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at Green Funeral Home, Atlanta; Pastor Ron Larsen officiating. Visitation will take place from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
