Katie Troyer, 90, of Goshen, formerly of Fairview

Katie C. Troyer, 90, of Goshen, formerly of Fairview, Michigan, passed away, Friday, October 14, 2022 at Goshen Hospital.

She was born March 12, 1932 in Johnson, County, Iowa, near Kalona, the 14th of 15 children born to Clemens C.B. Miller and Mattie J. (Miller) Miller.

The family moved to Elkhart County in 1936 where she lived through her teen years, accepting Jesus as her savior and was baptized in the conservative Mennonite church. At age 21 Katie moved to Flint, Michigan and worked in voluntary service for three years.

It was there that she met and married Lloyd D. Troyer. After his 1-W service, they moved to Fairview, Michigan, where they lived for more than 50 years.

Katie was an active member of Fairview Mennonite Church, where she taught Sunday school, Bible school, and served on all kinds of food committees. She also worked as a cook at AuSable Valley Nursing Home for 21 years. Katie returned to Goshen in 2014 where she was an active member of Benton Mennonite Church and volunteering at Greencroft Retirement community.

Katie was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed being with family, making meals, and working on jigsaw puzzles. Her special projects included piecing and hand sewing quilts that she would donate to Mennonite Central Committee.

Loving survivors include two daughters, Lorna Troyer of Goshen, and Lunette (Ray) Caples of Middlebury; a daughter-in-law, Syrena Troyer of Fairview, Michigan; six grandchildren, Chad (Bridgette) Troyer, Alyssa Caples, Cody Troyer, Boomer (Anna) Caples, Kelcie (Brent) Rose, and Janae (Caleb) Hall; and four great-grandchildren with one on the way.

Along with her parents and husband, Katie was preceded in death by a daughter, Lois Troyer, a son, Lyle Troyer, and all of her siblings.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 19, 2022 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. An 11 a.m. funeral service with viewing 1 hour prior, will be conducted Thursday, October 20, at Benton Mennonite Church, 15350 C.R. 44, Goshen. Pastor Doug Kauffman will officiate.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at The Fairview Mennonite Church Basement. Burial of ashes will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, Michigan.
