Len Sarki, 96, of Alabaster Township

Leonard W. (Len) Sarki, age 96, lived and passed away peacefully in his Alabaster home on October 5, 2022. He was born August 3, 1926, in Alabaster Township, son of Helen (Johnson) and Charles Sarki. He loved to hunt and fish. He and his wife, Dorothy, married almost 75 years February 7th, loved to golf, cross-country ski, ride bikes, and travel extensively throughout the U.S., as well as Europe, Aruba, Mexico, Canada, and cruises to Alaska, Caribbean, and Panama Canal after 41 years employment and retirement from National Gypsum Company. He served in the US Navy during World War II and was in combat aboard the USS Atlanta CL104 in the Pacific Ocean. He was a member of the Tawas United Methodist Church, Tawas Area School Board Member for 13 years, East Tawas City Council, Alabaster Township Board where he was often called “The Mayor of Alabaster”, Iosco County Planning Commission, and a Lions Club member for 22 years. Len loved serving the good citizens of Iosco County and Alabaster Township. He is now serving his Saviour and Eternal Father, Jesus Christ.

Left to cherish his memory and his beloved wife, Dot, sons Len II, Iowa City, IA; Mike (Beverly), Gainesville, FL; Rob (Colleen), Petoskey, MI; Tim (Lori), Grand Haven, MI; and a precious daughter, Sue Annette Kadrich (Brian), Tawas, Michigan, and 9 wonderful grandchildren, Lije (Jia) Sarki, Leah Sarki, Evan Sarki, Erin (Matt) Fate, Amy (Matt) Meehan, Trisha (David) Crawford, Cole Kadrich, Casey Kadrich, Craig Kadrich, and preceded in death Cody Kadrich on May 2, 2022; 4 great grandsons, Emerson, Charles, Henry, and Cassius and 3 great granddaughters, Mila, Ainsley, and Charlotte. Also survived by sister-in-law, Peggy (Terry) Beadle, Waterford, Michigan, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceased sister, Vera (Alfred) Martin, brother, Evart, and brother-in-law, Wayne (Sally) White.

A memorial service to celebrate Leonard’s life has been scheduled for Monday, October 10, 2022, at Tawas United Methodist Church with Pastor Kris Kappler officiating. The family will welcome friends at the church from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM with a service beginning at 11:00 AM.
