Maria Urban, age 89, died on Sunday, August 14, 2022, in Roscommon.
Maria was born March 24, 1933, in Emsdetten, Germany, the daughter of Heinrich and Berta (Hahn) Schmitz. She married Jakob Urban on October 5, 1957 and together they enjoyed 64 years of marriage.
Maria loved being around people and was an avid volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul in Prudenville, her Red Hatter group, and the St. Michael’s CCW. Jakob and Maria traveled the world on cruises and enjoyed casinos; making friends everywhere they went. She also loved a great game of cards and family gatherings had to include her scrumptious cheesecake. If you were lucky enough to have crossed her path over the course of her life, chances are, she gave you something she hand knitted or crocheted.
Maria will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by children, Annegrete (Paul) Nagel, Jacob Henry (Kimberly) Urban, Richard (Stefanie Bloxsom) Urban, Gina Urban and Rosemarie (Michael) Carafelly; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Adelheid Wermers, Werner Schmitz and Helmut Schmitz; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jakob and beloved son, Robert Eric.
Family and friends will gather from 6:00-8:00 PM, on Friday, August 19, 2022, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:30 PM at Wagner and Walsh Funeral Directors, 143 Lake Street, Roscommon, Michigan 48653. The Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 AM, with an hour of gathering prior, on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at St. Michael Catholic Church, 104 North 6th Street, Roscommon, Michigan 48653. Celebrant will be Father Anthony Citro. Burial will follow at Crestview Cemetery in Markey Township.
