Jim Moffitt, Sr. 85, of Roscommon

James E. “Jim” Moffitt Sr., age 85, of Roscommon passed away on Thursday May 12, 2022 at Covenant Hospital in Saginaw surrounded by his family.

Jim was born on October 12, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan to Harold and Frances (Churma) Moffitt. He was married on May 9, 1959 in Detroit, Michigan to Nancy Dubois.

He retired from the Detroit Police Department after 30 years serving as a Detective Sgt. The couple moved to Roscommon in 1989. Jim then began working for Roscommon County Probate Court where he served over 25 years. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and DPOA. He enjoyed reading, studying history, crossword puzzles, watching sports on TV and playing golf.  

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 63 years; Nancy Moffitt of Roscommon, children; Kathleen Moffitt of Maryland, Julie Laforge of Utica,  Daniel Moffitt of Grosse Pointe, Mark (Pamela) Moffitt of St. Clair Shores and Mary Moe of Marquette, nine grandchildren and brother; David (Mary) Moffitt of Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents, son; James Moffitt Jr., daughter-in-law; Mary Ellen Moffitt, brother Jack and sister; Patricia.  

Mass of Christian Burial for James E. Moffitt Sr. will be conducted at 11 am on Wednesday May 18, 2022 from St. James Catholic Church  with Father Bernard Tyler officiating. Interment will be in Crestview Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday May 17, 2022 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Christler Funeral Home- Prudenville Chapel.
