Cliff Halliday, 85, of Houghton Lake

Clifton R. Halliday, age 85, of Houghton Lake passed away on Sunday May 15, 2022.

Cliff was born on May 29, 1936 in Howell, Michigan to Charles and Lisette (Heard) Halliday. He was married on August 28, 1954 in Lake City to Edah L. Carpenter, who preceded him in death. He later married Louise Spurgeon on May 29, 2019 in Houghton Lake.

In 1963 Cliff started Cliff’s Sand & Gravel  and later started Halliday Sand & Gravel with his wife Edah. He was a member of the Houghton Lake Wesleyan Church and enjoyed working and running the heavy equipment at the shop, spending time with his family, playing the guitar, dancing, watching western movies and football.  

Cliff is survived by his loving wife; Louise Halliday, daughter; Lucendia Halliday, son; Cliff (Debra) Halliday Jr., step-children; Kenneth (Debra) Spurgeon, Michael Spurgeon and Karen Salyers, grandchildren; Chauncey (Michelle Foster) Halliday, Nathan Halliday and Valentina Halliday, step-grandchildren; Brittany Spurgeon, Megan Spurgeon and Derek Sanders, great-grandchildren; Jacob, Meghan, Brayden and Khloe Halliday, step-great grandchildren; Logan, Haleigh and Ryleigh Foster, Gabriella and Isabella Sanders, sister; Freda Akin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; Edah L. Halliday, brothers, Charles Halliday and Walter Halliday, sisters; Betty Halliday, Marion Warner, Katherine Wendel and Frances Jeske.

Funeral Services for Clifton L. Halliday will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday May 19, 2022 from Houghton Lake Wesleyan Church with Rev. Bryan Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Roscommon Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 18, 2022 from 4:00 pm to 8 pm at Christler Funeral Home-Houghton Lake Chapel and Thursday May 19, 2022 from 10:00 am until the time of the service at the Houghton Lake Wesleyan Church. I

n-lieu of flowers memorial contributions in memory of Clifton are asked to be directed to the Houghton Lake Wesleyan Church. Christler Funeral Home-Houghton Lake Chapel is serving the family. Condolences can be sent to the family online at www.christler-holdship.com
