Sonya Schneider, 60, of Rose City

Sonya Lorraine Schneider passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on April 13, 2022, at age 60.

She was born on November 16, 1961, in West Branch, MI to August and Ruthann (Sheppard) Fox, and resided in Rose City, MI her entire life.

After graduating high school, Sonya married her first husband, Thomas Leroy Herrick, on June 23, 1979, and grew her family, giving birth to her oldest son, Thomas August, on May 26, 1980, and her youngest son, Timothy Albert, on October 26, 1982. Her husband, Thomas, preceded her in death on May 29, 1995.

She had a decades-long career at American Plastic Toys from which she retired in 2017. Sonya married Leonard Schneider on July 4, 2005. The couple had been together for over 25 years, with 16 of those years being married.

She loved spending time with her family and friends, socializing, camping, trailriding, gardening, cooking, canning, and reading. Sonya was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, & aunt. She had many dear friends and was very active in her community. She will be missed by many.

Sonya is survived by her husband, Leonard Schneider; sons, Thomas (Ashley) Herrick and Timothy Herrick; sister Carrie (late Vernon, Jeff Baird) Wangler; brother Chad (Tammy) Fox; grandchildren, Hunter and Nikole Herrick; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, August and Ruthann (Sheppard) Fox; her first husband, Thomas Leroy Herrick; her brother, August (Tamie) Fox; and her niece, Tanya Fox.

A graveside memorial will take place at 1pm, Saturday, May 14, 2022, at Lane Heights Cemetery in Lupton, MI, where her ashes will be interred in her family plot. A reception at Rose Township Hall will directly follow.

Family and friends are invited to attend and join in celebrating Sonya’s life, share memories, and say farewell to an amazing woman. Condolences, flowers, and memorial contributions can be sent directly to her loved ones.
