Mary Heeg, 88, of Luzerne

Mary Heeg of Luzerne, MI, age 88, passed away peacefully at home April 12, 2022.

She was born in Lansing, MI, to Lawrence and Lois Martin, August 15, 1933.


Mary is survived by 6 children: Michael (Theresa) of Laingsburg, MI, David (Dawn) of Marion, MI, Marie (Dave) Lewis of Luzerne, MI, Lyle of Luzerne, MI, Duane of Webberville, MI, and Linda (Robert) Hand of Mountain Home, TX, 23 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 7 great – great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by 9 siblings: Joyce Goerge of Fowler, MI, Lauris (Bob) Barr of Manistique, MI, Ruth Millhisler of Perry, MI, Anne Hedden of Perry, MI, Joe (Pat) Martin of New Port Richey, FL, Margaret Jacobs of Williamston, MI, Elaine Smith of Holt, MI, Chris (Sue) Martin of Ithaca, MI, and Barb (Tom) Bridges of Williamston, MI. Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband Doug, and one grandson.


Mary worked as a registered nurse in many settings; her favorite was in surgery at the hospital.

Mary loved sewing, quilting, and crafts and teaching them to anyone. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren around the sewing machine made many happy memories. She also enjoyed camping, square dancing, gardening, bird watching, quilt shows, and shopping for fabric. She was very involved with activities at her church, St. Mary in Mio, the Shrine and the Gift Shop. She loved playing cards and games with family and friends and especially playing Joker with her sisters.


Cremation has taken place according to her wishes. A memorial celebration mass will be held at St. Mary Church in Mio, MI on April 22, 2022. Visitation will begin at 11:30 followed by the rosary at 12:00, and mass at 12:30. A luncheon will be served.
