Michael LaVeque, 37, of Mio

Michael Paul LaVeque, age 37, son of Charles (Frenchy) & Dorothy LaVeque, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 20th, 2022 at his home in Mio, MI.

Michael was born in Flint, MI on July 12th, 1984, joining his four older siblings. He spent much of his childhood in Northern Michigan, attending Saint Helen Elementary and Mio AuSable High School, where Michael spent his time making friends, playing football, and learning to play guitar.

Mike was a jack of all trades, with a passion for restoring and working on old cars and equipment and learning new trades. After school, Mike went on to begin what would become his lifelong, dedicated craft as a skilled carpenter, learning the trade with his brother Ron. He went on to travel the country working construction, running crews, playing shows, writing and playing music wherever he landed, all while building America.

Michael was an imitable force to those who were lucky enough to know and love him, with an undeniable spark of life, leaving his mark and creating lifelong friendships wherever he visited. Michael dedicated himself to his craft and ambitions, spending time in Louisiana, Florida, Texas, and various southern states, following the work and chasing his dreams.

Mike eventually moved back home to Mio, MI where he met and fell in love with his soulmate, Jama, and took on the role of helping to raise their daughter, Marley Jay. Mike found true happiness with his family and enjoyed spending time at home and working in his garage.

Mike was a self-made success, owning and operating a successful construction business (Craft Carpentry) hand-crafting custom homes and additions.

Mike leaves behind his beloved Jama and Marley, his many, many friends, as well as his older brothers Ron (Tonya) and Bernard Scott, his sister Antonia LaVeque, and his nieces & nephews, Sydney Scott, Ashley Scott and Eli LaVeque. Aunts and Uncles Mae (Steve) Striggow, Brenda (Emil) Schatz, David (Betty) Williamson, Barbara (Chris) Westphal, and Julia Williamson, along with several cousins.

Michael will always remain an inspiration to those who were lucky enough to share in his brief journey- a musician, a friend we will all miss.

Visitation 2- 7 PM, Saturday, March 26, 2022 at The Lashley Funeral Home in Mio. A “Celebration of Mike’s Life” will be held at later date.
