Alvin Nickell, 92, of Whittemore

Alvin Henry Nickell passed away on Monday, February 21, 2022 at the age of 92.

He was born near Whittemore, MI to Clarence and Myrtle Nickell on July 10, 1929. Alvin attended school at a one room schoolhouse in National City and later attended Whittemore School.

He married June Blakley in 1949. Together, they had three boys, Lewis, Henry, and the late Terry. Alvin worked many jobs over the years but most of the years were spent at USG. He was a heavy equipment operator for 35 years and retired before he was ready due to heart problems.

His hobbies included woodworking, hunting, fishing, playing cards, gardening, planting trees, picking berries and mushrooms, as well as attending rummage and auction sales.

Alvin is survived by his sons, Lewis (Teresa) Nickell of Prescott and Henry (Linda) Nickell of Tawas; grandchildren, Lewis Bedford, Bridgett (Mark) Barr, Penny Curtis (Diane Saunders), Milford Bedford (Phyllis Anderson), Sande (Bill) Vollmer, Belinda Soults (Dan Robb), Miechon Jordan (Joe Graves), and Justin Nickell as well as 16 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Dorothy Nedwicke, Etta Edwards, Esther Ward, Francis “Earl” Nickell (Fran) and Pearl Priest (Denny) and many nieces and nephews.

Alvin was predeceased by his wife, June Nickell; infant son, Terry; his parents, Clarence and Myrtle Nickell; and his siblings, Calvin Nickell, Clarence Nickell, William Nickell, Robert Nickell, Sylvia Osborne, Goldie Osborne, Lucille Allen, Ethan Nickell, Thomas Nickell, and Ray Nickell.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 25, 2022 at 12:00 pm (visitation at 11:00 am) at the Buresh Funeral Home in Twining, MI. Rev. Tom Harvey will officiate and the interment will follow in the Saints Cemetery in Whittemore, MI. The family will welcome friends on Thursday from 5:00-8:00 pm.
