Ronald W. VanGorp, age 74, of Houghton Lake passed away on Thursday February 17, 2022 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
Ron was born on July 13, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan to Waldermar and Mildred (Ulrich) VanGorp. He retired from General Motors. Ron was married on August 5, 1972 in Grosse Pointe, Michigan to Margaret Burns. The couple moved to Houghton Lake 15 years ago from Macomb. He enjoyed fishing, horseback riding, building computers, working on model cars and boats. He was a man’s man and put his handyman skills to use in building the interior portion of his home. Ron was very mechanically inclined.
Ron is survived by his loving wife of 50 years; Margaret VanGorp of Houghton Lake, daughters; Jennifer (Scott) Koers of New Haven, Michele VanGorp of Minnesota and Heather (Arthur) Buell of Vermont, grandsons; Zachary Koers, Nolan Koers, Mason Buell and Karson Buell, sister; Sharonlee VanGorp of Linden. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother; Waldermar VanGorp Jr..
Per Ron’s request cremation will take place and private family services will be held. Christler Funeral Home-Prudenville Chapel is serving the family.
