Wayne Lee Stockton, 82, of Roscommon

Wayne Lee Stockton, age 82, of Roscommon, died on Sunday, January 16, 2022, at his home in the presence and comfort of his family.

Wayne was born May 27, 1939, in Gladwin, Michigan, the son of Kenneth and Dorothy (Peck) Stockton.

Wayne married Beverly Short on November 18, 1961, in Higgins Lake, Michigan.

Wayne was a paratrooper for the Army’s 101st Airborne Division, stationed in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. As a production foreman for Unocal, Wayne was admired for his excellent safety record, loyalty, and work ethic.

Wayne excelled in athletics, completing the Grayling, AuSable Canoe Marathon multiple times. He enjoyed running, playing football, and cross-country skiing. Wayne’s greatest pleasure was watching his grandchildren participate in basketball and swimming competitions.

A pioneer at heart, Wayne loved the outdoors. He was an avid trout and walleye fisherman. Wayne also loved deer and raccoon hunting. He was truly his happiest in the woods.

Wayne was also known as a generous man to all who encountered him. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Beverly of Roscommon; children: Brett Stockton of Grayling, and Kim (Tony) Stockton of Hale; grandchildren: Brett II, Carissa, Taylor (Jonathan), Normand, Emily; brother Harold “Butch” (Phyllis) Stockton of Higgins Lake; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bob Stockton.

Wayne’s family has chosen to remember him privately at this time. A private ceremony will be held in Wayne’s home for his immediate family.

The family would like memorial contributions to be made in Wayne’s name to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 32121 Woodward Avenue, Suite 350, Royal Oak, Michigan 48073.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wagner and Walsh Funeral Directors, Roscommon.
