Ronald Emmett Manning, 88, of Mio

Ronald Emmett Manning, age 88, of Mio, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on December 29, 2021, surrounded by his family.


Ron was born June 7, 1933, in Miami, Florida, to Benjamin and Opal (Cole) Manning.
He received a full scholarship to the University of Miami for archery and trumpet.
Ron served as Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy as a pilot during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was part of the recovery team for John Glenn’s first space flight.

He was, also, a part of the funeral cortege for President John F. Kennedy.
Ron was an elementary teacher for Fairview Schools and substituted for Fairview and Mio Schools after he retired. He was a mail delivery person for Mio and Luzerne for 11 years.


Ron enjoyed playing his trumpet which began at age 10 and continued playing up until a month before his death. He played for numerous local events including weddings, funerals, parades, and memorial services.


Ron was very active in the church and community, giving his time and fellowship.
He is loved and will be missed by all!!


He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Manning, brother Randall (Pam) Manning, sons Matthew Manning, Benjamin Manning, and Vernon (Jennifer) Manning, daughters Carole (Gary) Kamen, Ruth (Bart) Fraser, and Elizabeth Maldonado, step-sons Yancy Redman and Talbot Redman, step-daughters Angelene Wycoff and Sasha (Mike) Bombe, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


Visitation Sunday, January 2, 2022 from 1:00 PM until the time of Funeral Service at 2:00 PM at The TriPoint Church of God, Mio, MI, with Pastor Jody Coon officiating. Military Honors following at church. Interment at Kittle Cemetery, Mio.
Memorial donations may be directed to the needs and wishes of the family.
