Mary Louise Winkler, 93, of Houghton Lake

Mary Louise (Tubridy) Winkler, age 93, died December 24, 2021 at Mid Michigan Medical Center-West Branch with her loving family by her side. Mary will be cremated per her wishes. 

Mary was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on March 9, 1928 to her parents Patrick & Margaret (Smith) Tubridy. She married Ronald Carney on February 3, 1948 in Pittsburgh, PA and he preceded her in death. She moved to Michigan and married Clifford W. Winkler on January 3, 1955. They were married 27 years. He died August 2, 1982. She and her family came to Houghton Lake in June 1962. They owned and operated Trails End Resort for many years.

Her greatest joy was her family and close friends. She also enjoyed sending and receiving greeting cards. She was a member of the PTA and a charter member of the Houghton Lake Booster Club. Mary was always involved in her children’s school activities and also all sporting events of her children and grandchildren. 

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Clifford W. Winkler and son; Patrick Winkler. Mary is survived by her sons; Harvey (Karen) Winkler of Houghton Lake and Clifford Winkler II and family of Houghton Lake, daughter; Margaret M. (Mike) Hall of Bath, twenty three grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren, special daughter; Heather Pittman of Cadillac, beloved cousin; Donna Williams and family.  

Donations may be directed to the family or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org Mary would like to thank the Commission on Aging, especially Donna. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the Spring of 2022.
