Jeanie Sloan Collins, 87, of Grayling

Born Eugenia Marie Bedard on August 24, 1934 to Leonard and Alda Bedard in Detroit, MI. She graduated from Holy Redeemer High School in 1952 and went on to nursing school at Detroit Mercy before moving to Grayling and marrying Duane Sloan, the love of her life and the father of her seven children.

Jeanie worked as a registered nurse in many capacities while living in Grayling: at Grayling Mercy Hospital and with Dr.’s Dosch and Berkley as their office nurse before working as the school nurse at Crawford AuSable Schools. She then moved to Lansing and finished her career as a Nurse Practitioner at the Ingham County Health Department.

Jeanie was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Raymond Bedard, her husband Col. William Duane Sloan on October 31, 2001 and her second husband Laurence F. Collins, Sr. on May 12, 2019. She is survived by her sister Patricia (Edgar) Trudeau of Milford, MI, brother Col. James (Sue) Bedard of Aikin, SC. She is also survived by her seven children, Dennis (Diane Goschke) of Grayling, Kevin (Sandy) of Ann Arbor, Susan (Richard) Harland of Grayling and Dunnellon, FL, Mary of Grayling, Mark (Valerie) of Grayling, Tim (Mary Lou) of Charlotte, MI and Ann Marie Donley of Grayling. Jeanie also had many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews that loved her dearly. She loved gathering with her family, was passionate about her faith, and never missed an opportunity to play golf when she was able.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, October 22, 2021, 10:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church in Grayling, visitation starting at 9:00 am, with Father Jerry Hunko officiating.

Memorial contributions can be made to Northern Pines Assisted Living Facility or St. Mary Catholic Church in Grayling, where Jeanie was a lifelong member. Condolences can be shared with family at www.sorensonlockwood.com.
