Martha Carol Sancrant, 86, of Houghton Lake

Martha Carol Sancrant, 86, of Houghton Lake passed away on Tuesday June 1, 2021 at home with her loving family by her side.

Martha was born on October 17, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan to Stonewall and Zelma (Crowson) Jackson. She moved with her family to the Houghton Lake area at a young age and graduated from Houghton Lake Community Schools. On June 11, 1988 in Houghton Lake, Martha was married  to Robert P. Sancrant. She owned and operated a day care for children for many years. She spent most of her life in the Houghton Lake area, except for a few years the family lived in Hannibal, Missouri. Martha was a member of the Houghton Lake Eagles and enjoyed doing crafts, playing cards and Yahtzee, and bowling. She loved decorating for Christmas and her special passion was chasing around with the grandkids.

Surviving Mrs. Sancrant are her two daughters, Linda Ayers of Houghton Lake, and Zelma (Mike) Zielke of Merritt; four grandchildren, Andrew (Stephanie) Zielke, Alicia (Wade) Norman, Scott Barnhart, and Rhonda Barnhart-Cross; 10 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; nephew, Arteen “Dick” (Courtney) Stout of Prudenville.  Martha was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert P. Sancrant; brother, Dick Stout; and daughter, Helen Freeman. 

Celebration of Life Services for Martha Carol Sancrant will be conducted at 1:00pm Saturday June 5, 2021 at the Houghton Lake Eagles, 100 Crestview Drive, Houghton Lake.  Interment will be in Roscommon Township Cemetery, Houghton Lake. Memorial contributions in memory of Martha are asked to be directed to the family. Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel is serving the family.
