Mary Banny, 89, of Tawas City and Houghton Lake passed away on Sunday March 21, 2021 at Iosco County Medical Care Facility in Tawas City.
Mary was born on May 22, 1931 in Suttons Bay, Michigan to Lavern and Theresa(Leabo) Walter . Mary worked as department manager in a supermarket for many years. She was married on August 15, 1966 in Toledo, Ohio to Ghalib J. “Gabe” Banny, whom preceded Mary in death in 2004. The couple moved from Leonard, Michigan to Houghton Lake in 1994. Mary was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Prudenville. She enjoyed playing bingo and her special love was spending time with her family.
Surviving Mrs. Banny are her son, Joseph (Janet) Banny of West Branch; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; brother, Tom(Kay) Sparks of East Lansing; special niece and nephew, Meredith(Jake) Ament and Brian(Heather) Sparks; and special cousin, Dawn (Jim) Collins. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ghalib J. “Gabe” Banny; two sons, Amil Banny and Mark Banny.
Funeral Services for Mary Banny will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Wednesday March 24, 2021 from Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel with Fr. Peter Eke officiating. Interment will be in Denton Township Cemetery, Prudenville. Visitation will be held on Wednesday March 24, 2021 from 12:00pm until the time of the service at 1:00pm at Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel. Memorial contributions in memory of Mary are asked to be directed to the Iosco County Medical Care Facility Activities Fund. Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel is serving the family.
