Avangeline Mae Lewis, age 86, of Roscommon

Avangeline Mae Lewis, age 86, of Roscommon, died on Friday, March 13, 2020, at home in the presence and comfort of her family.

Born to Clive J and Evelyn May, Avangeline Mae Riddle was the fourth eldest of eighteen children. She married her high school sweetheart Richard Lewis when she was 17. How could she resist a man whose proposal included the famous Elvis song “It’s Now or Never”? They had 59 happily married years together until his death in 2009. Together they had 4 beautiful children, Mary Jean, Benjamin Richard, Eve Marie, and Matthew Paul. Her children fondly remember her taking care of them when they were sick and her telling them stories of when she met their dad. Her grandchildren remember her letting them help her with their crossword puzzle and picking rhubarb from the garden to bake pies. Avangeline enjoyed time spent with family the most, and she was able to remember the birthdays of all 17 of her siblings right until the end.

She is survived by her 4 children, 8 grandchildren Rachael, Seth, Benjamin, Daniel, Jarrod, Joseph, Joshua, and Jonah; as well as her 12 great grandchildren Paige, Jade, Ellia, Sky, Adam, Emersyn, Summer, Rebecca, Reid, Jarrod, Roman, & one due next month.

She passed peacefully Friday morning the 13th of March at home, in her own bed, among family and a very loyal dog. Her family finds comfort and peace in knowing they will see her again when our Lord returns. Until then, we’ll miss her each day and think of her and dad every time we hear “It’s Now or Never”.

Visitation will take place at Wagner and Walsh Funeral Directors on Monday, March 16, 2020 from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will begin on Tuesday, March 17, at 11 a.m., with the family accepting visitors at 10 a.m.

Arrangements were entrusted to Wagner and Walsh Funeral Directors, Roscommon.
