John Rudolph Paxson, 78, of Houghton Lake

John Rudolph Paxson, 78, of  Houghton Lake went to be with his Lord on Saturday September 14, 2019 at home with his loving family by his side.

John was born on May 10, 1941 in Dearborn, Michigan to John and Irene (Katona) Paxson. He grew up in Dearborn and graduated from high school there.  John served as an E-5 in the Navy during the beginning of the Vietnam War.  On May 6, 1967 in Ashburn,Georgia, John was married to Louise Earnest. John worked as a Residential Contractor for many years in Georgia, finally retiring at age 73.  The couple spent a total of 44 years in Georgia, moving to Houghton Lake from 1998 to 2001 and returned to Georgia until making Houghton Lake their permanent home in 2014.  John was a member of Faith Alive Assembly of God Church in West Branch and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Surviving Mr. Paxson are his loving wife of 52 years, Louise  Paxson of Houghton Lake; daughter, Pamela (Roy) Giddens of North Edwards, CA; son, John (Regina) Paxson of Houghton Lake; four grandchildren, Novella (Erin), Ross, Nathaniel, and Jonathan; two great grandchildren, Elizabeth, and Avangelina;  three brothers, Alfred (Judy) Paxson of Canton, Richard Paxson of Westland, and Roger (Loretta) Paxson of Grand Rapids; sister, Susan Sanchez of Kentwood; brother-in-law, Carey(Judy) Earnest of Tipton, GA; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Bob and Pat Payne and their children, Bobby, Tim, Angie, and Kyle of Sycamore, GA, and Denny and Pat Kiroff and their son Scott of Houghton Lake. John was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Robert, Ronnie, and Tommy.

Celebration of Life Services for John Rudolph Paxson will be conducted at 12:00pm (noon) Monday September 23, 2019 from Faith Alive Assembly of God Church, 2945 Hansen Road, West Branch.  Interment will be with Military Honors in Roscommon Twp. Cemetery, Houghton Lake, at 4:00pm Monday September 23, 2019. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of John are asked to be directed to Faith Alive Assembly of God Church of West Branch or the American Cancer Society. Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel is serving the family. Condolences can be sent to the family online at www.christler-holdship.com
