John G. “Jack” Metzler, 86, of Houghton Lake

John G. “Jack” Metzler, 86, of  Houghton Lake, went to be with his Lord on Thursday August 22, 2019 while at home with his loving family by his side.

John  “Jack” was born on November 30, 1932, in Paterson, New Jersey to Charles Henry and Alice May (Mueller) Metzler. Jack grew up in New Jersey and went on to receive his Master’s Degree in Theology.  He was an Ordained Minister serving many churches throughout his career. On June 5, 1954 in Houghton Lake, Jack was married to Donna M. Bowman.  The family traveled to many areas from the Midwest to Arizona, as Jack would be called to Pastor at churches.  Jack was an avid writer and had written four non-fiction books and novels that have been published, including “Handbook for Deacons” and the teaching manual for it. Jack was a member of First Baptist Church of Prudenville 1556 W. Houghton Lake Drive Prudenville, MI 48651 and a charter member of the Houghton Lake Lions.  He also was a member of the NRA and enjoyed shooting and hunting.

Surviving Mr. Metzler are his loving wife of 65 years, Donna M. Metzler of Houghton Lake; two sons, George(Kathy) Metzler of Mt. Shasta, CA, and John Metzler of Dale, Indiana; daughter, Brenda(Tim) Metzler-O’Brien of Laveen, AZ; ten grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.  Jack was preceded in death by parents, six brothers and two sisters.

Memorial Services for John G. “Jack” Metzler will be conducted at 11:00am Saturday August 31, 2019 from First Baptist Church of Prudenville with Pastor Daniel O’Brien officiating.  Memorial contributions in memory of Jack are asked to be directed to the Houghton Lake Senior Center.
