Vernon Opel Overmyer of Houghton Lake

Vernon Opel Overmyer, age 55, of Houghton Lake, died on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at home in the presence and comfort of his family.

Vern was born January 23, 1964 in Jackson, Michigan.  Vern loved to hunt and fish.  He enjoyed listening to rock music, like “Abba” and “KISS”, but truly enjoyed all different genres.  The louder the better.  He loved to play Texas hold’em poker and going to the casino.  Vern’s favorite holiday was the fourth of July.  He loved fireworks, especially morters.  He was a bit of a movie enthusiast.  He enjoyed old war movies, gangster movies and horror movies.  Vern was a very spirited person and enjoyed all the aspects of life.    He loved his family, his children, his grandchildren, and his mother.  He will be remembered for being a great dad, a great brother and especially loving his longtime companion Lisa.  Vern was a tough lumberjack but had a soft spot in his heart for unicorns.  He will always be remembered by his family and closest friends as “Burnin’ Vernon”.  Vern always wanted to be remembered for the good times and to not be sad for him when he was gone.

Vern will be greatly missed by family and friends.  He is survived by his longtime companion Lisa Hendrix from Houghton Lake; daughters: Amy Jo Davis from Ohio, Samantha Overmyer (Michael) Lyons from Houghton Lake, Casandra (Jessie) Ames from Houghton Lake; grandchildren: Aubrey, Meka, Aryia; siblings: Dale (Hazel) Overmyer from Gaylord, Tammy (Phil) Jacobson from Wyoming, Edward (Beatrice) from Grayling, Danelle (Tim) Butzin from Grayling, Daniel (Cynthia) Canfield II from Grayling; his father Dan Canfield from Grayling; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Vern is preceded in death by his mother Bethanna Lou Walker, daughter Sarah Lynn Overmyer and son Vernon George Edward Overmyer.
