Peter N. DuFresne

Peter N. DuFresne, 86, of Houghton Lake passed away on Sunday January 20, 2019 at home.

Peter was born on January 14, 1933 in Cheboygan, Michigan to David and Rosalie (Vieau) DuFresne. Peter grew up and attended school in the Cheboygan and Detroit areas. He served in the Navy on the USS Hood from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean War. Peter worked as a Truck Driver for Sure Alloy of Warren and Square Deal Cartage of Detroit before his retirement. On August 1, 1981 in Warren, Peter was married to Anna Hutira. The couple had a cottage at Houghton Lake and made Houghton Lake their permanent home in the 1990’s. Peter was a member of Houghton Lake Eagles, Houghton Lake Moose, and American Legion. He enjoyed golf and the shuffleboard league. Peter loved feeding and watching his backyard birds and squirrels, but especially loved spending time with friends and family.

Surviving Mr. DuFresne are his two sons, Michael (Michelle) DuFresne of Knoxville, TN and Peter (Lisa) DuFresne of Waynesville, OH; two daughters, Victoria Quigg of Clawson and Denise (John) Stacho of Rochester Hills; step son, Jon (Tammy) Mandziara of Macomb; two step daughters, Audrey (Christopher) Giannola of Shelby Township and Sue(Eddie) Krausmann of Clinton Township; fourteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother, Paul (Ursula) DuFresne of Ypsilanti; several nieces and nephews. Peter was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anna DuFresne; three sisters, Julia Lee, Philemine Roy, and Rosalie Dennis; and one brother, David DuFresne. 

Celebration of Life Services for Peter N. DuFresne was held at the Houghton Lake Eagles Lodge at 1 pm Thursday January 24, 2019. Interment will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. Memorial contributions in memory of Peter are asked to be directed to the DAV or Wounded Warriors Project.
