Geraldine “Gerry” E. Powell of Houghton Lake

Geraldine “Gerry” E. Powell, 87, of Houghton Lake passed away on Friday, Jan. 19, 2018 at her home with her loving family by her side.

Gerry was born on September 29, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan to Floyd and Ethel (Burriel) Manning. She grew up in the Dearborn area graduating from Dearborn High School. Gerry was married on September 10, 1949 in Garden City to Richard W. Powell. The couple moved to Houghton Lake in 1977 from Lake City and owned and operated Powell’s Restaurant for many years. Gerry enjoyed working in her flower gardens and especially loved spending time with family and friends.

Gerry is survived by her son; Daniel (Jan) Powell of Washington, IN; daughters; Elizabeth (Carl) Wright of Lake City and Patricia (Bill) Randall of Houghton Lake; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard W. Powell; brother, Earl Manning; and sister, Margaret Pashkot.

A Celebration of Life Service for Geraldine E. Powell will be conducted at 12 pm Monday, Jan 22, 2018 from Christler Funeral Home-Prudenville Chapel with Chaplin Sharon Koenitzer officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday from 11 am until the time of the service at 12 pm.

Memorial contributions in memory of Geraldine are asked to be directed to Intellicare Hospice, 441 S Main St Suite 4, Standish, MI 48658 or the Roscommon County Animal Shelter, 1110 Short Dr, Prudenville, MI 48651. Condolences can be sent to the family online at www.christler-holdship.com.
