Mary M. Hartwell of Houghton Lake

Mary M. Hartwell, 75, of Houghton Lake passed away April 11, 2017 at McLaren Bay Regional Hospital in Bay City.

She was born on August 13, 1941 in Munising to Harrison and Edith (Wright) Walker. She grew up in Sault Ste Marie where she married Leonard Hartwell on April 16, 1957. The couple moved to the Roscommon County area in 1958.

Mrs. Hartwell was employed by Hancock Manufacturing of Roscommon for many years. She helped with food distribution program in the area and enjoyed being with family, especially spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving are her three sons, Tony (Robin) Hartwell of Houghton Lake, Thomas (Brenda) Hartwell of Houghton Lake, and Dalton Hartwell of Houghton Lake; daughter, Robin Hartwell of Houghton Lake; 11 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are five sisters, Ruth Harman of Durand, Georgia Mae Rau of West Branch, Trina Wright of South Carolina, Geni Fowler of Kaleva, and Rosemary Richard of Kingsley; brother, James Hodgson of Mesick; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard Hartwell; and sister, Cecilia Walker.

Memorial services were conducted from Houghton Lake Community of Christ Church, with Gail Carrick officiating.

Memorial contributions in memory of Mary are asked to be directed to the family.

Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel is serving the family.
