Mary Jane Ostling of Roscommon

Mary Jane Ostling, 90, of Roscommon, passed away April 20, 2017 at The Brook of Roscommon.

Mrs. Ostling was born May 10, 1926 in Pontiac to Norton and Laura (Salisbury) Williams. Most of her life she lived in Roscommon.

She married Kenneth J. Ostling Nov. 1, 1947 in Traverse City.

In the mid 1940′ Mrs. Ostling was an operator for the phone company. From 1960-1966 she was a bookkeeper for Gerrish Higgins Schools and a secretary for Superintendent Elwin Hulce. In 1966 she worked for NCACU as a bookkeeper until 1975. With her husband, Ken, she owned and operated RKO Driving Range from 1968-1991 and Burning Oak Golf Course from 1973-1979.

She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Ostling enjoyed golf, reading, doing crossword puzzles and playing cards.

Surviving are two children, Jim (Pam) Ostling and Carole Ostling all of Roscommon; two grandchildren, Trent (Michelle) Ostling of Hamilton and Blake (Janae) Ostling of Roscommon; four great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Alayna, Owen and Grady Ostling; and sisters-in-law, Edna Nunn of East Tawas and Thela Ostling of Roscommon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth; infant son, Ricky; step father, Harrison Kemp; and a brother, Carl Williams.

Funeral services were held April 24, 2017 at Messiah Lutheran Church with Jim Krauss officiating. Burial is at Roscommon Village Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church.
