Captain Lawrence Ralph Hogaboom of Houghton Lake

Captain Lawrence Ralph Hogaboom, 75, died April 16, 2017 in Hartland.

He was born May 18, 1941 in Watertown, NY to the late Ralph Roland and Florence Idalla (Franklin) Hogaboom. He graduated from Oswego NY High School. He served in the US Army, including a tour in Korea.

He married Lynda E. Murdoch on June 1, 1968 in Montgomery, NY. They graduated from the Salvation Army School for Officers Training in New York City in 1972. Together they served as officers in the Salvation Army in Sayre, PA, and Cheboygan, Owosso and Livingston County. They retired in 1999.

In 2003 they moved to Houghton Lake. In retirement, he enjoyed being part of the Forgotten Man Ministries and ministering at Maxie Training School, Nokomis Challenge Center and Shawono Center.

Mr. Hogaboom also made many beautiful items from wood. His hobby throughout his life was playing chess.

He is survived by his wife, Lynda; sons, Donald (Rebecca) Hogaboom of Highland, and Jonathon Hogaboom of Lansing; grandchildren, Jeremy, Donna and Noah; sister, Beverly Ahern of Leesburg, FL and brother, Roy (Betty) Hogaboom of Milton-Free Water, OR.

The family will receive friends starting at 11 a.m. April 22 at Houghton Lake Wesleyan Church, 5599 W. Houghton Lake Dr. until services officiated by Rev. Bryan Thompson begin at 1 p.m. (please note corrected date.)

Burial will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly.

Memorials may be made to The Forgotten Man Ministries-Roscommon Jail Ministry, 3940 Fruit Ridge NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49544.Arrangements by Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon.
