Vera L. (Kemp-Brandt) Wallington of Houghton Lake

Vera L. (Kemp-Brandt) Wallington, 94, of Houghton Lake passed away January 26, 2017 at King Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in Houghton Lake.

Vera was born on February 6, 1922 in Lairdsville, Pennsylvania to Truman and Maude (Calkins) Howe. She moved to the Houghton Lake at a young age and graduated from Houghton Lake Schools. Vera served as treasurer for Lake Township for several years. She was married on August 25, 1938 to Arley Kemp, whom preceded her in death in 1973. She was then married to Leo Brandt on June 12, 1974 and he preceded her in death in 1996. On September 19, 1998 she married Delbert Wallington, whom preceded her in death in 2007.

Mrs. Wallington was a member of the Community of Christ Church. She loved crocheting and made many lap robes for the Veterans Hospital.

Surviving are her daughter, Rosemary (Dean) Bedtelyon of Millington; three sons, Phillip (Marge) Kemp of Detroit, Virgil (Jean) Kemp of St. Johns, and Tim (Sharon) Kemp of Houghton Lake; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Florence Pendleton, Verna Griffith, Helen Cambridge, and Mildred Jordan; and two brothers Lester Howe and Paul Howe.

Visitation will be Feb. 10 from 10 a.m. until the memorial service at 11 a.m. from Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel with Mrs. Gail Carrick officiating.

Interment will be in Roscommon Township Cemetery

Memorial contributions in memory of Vera are asked to be directed to Community of Christ Church, 7622 Stone School Road, Houghton Lake.

Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel is serving the family.
