Robert E. Irwin of Roscommon

Robert E. Irwin, 78, a longtime Roscommon and St. Helen resident, passed away Jan. 30, 2017 at Lapeer County Medical Care Facility.

He was born Dec. 26, 1938 in Pontiac to Elmer and Georgia (Tottle) Irwin. He was a 1957 graduate of Roscommon High School and served in the US Navy during peacetime.

His first job was as an auto mechanic. He later obtained his real estate license. In 1970 he moved his family to Ithaca where his entrepreneurial spirit led him to own and operate 3-way Camper Sales, and other business endeavors for many years. He then took that same spirit and became a real estate developer throughout the state of Michigan.

Mr. Irwin enjoyed visiting casinos around Michigan and even won a new big red truck. He loved to hunt and fish in northern Michigan and Canada. He never knew a stranger.

Surviving are two daughters, Patricia (Leroy) Ward of South Carolina and Barbara Latham of Traverse City; a son, Charles Irwin of South Carolina; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Joan Bogert of Waterford; and many close friends and colleagues.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bill.

Funeral services were conducted at Walsh Funeral home, Roscommon with Chaplain Ron Peters officiating.

Private burial to follow at Richardson Cemetery, AuSable Township.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Helen General Fund through RCCF, PO Box 824, Roscommon MI 48653.
