Joan C. VanNest of Roscommon

Joan C. VanNest, 87, of Roscommon passed away Jan. 17, 2017 at her home at the Brook Assisted Living, Roscommon.

Joan was born April 9, 1929 in Detroit to Willard J. and Jeanette Marie (Sanders) Jones. She married Rev. Charles M. VanNest June 16, 1951 in Pontiac.

Mrs. VanNest was a homemaker and was very active in church ministries with her husband teaching children and youth, working in women’ ministries and most recently led a Bible Study for several years for residents of her final home, the Brook. She was an active member of the Roscommon Baptist Church managing its library for several years.

Surviving are her daughter, Jody Pickens of Westland; two sons, Charles, III (Brenda) VanNest of California and Stephen (Trina) VanNest of Canton; grandchildren, Charles and Robert VanNest, Jackie (Todd) Sharp; and Cheyenne, Alaura and Kiana VanNest; and great-grandchildren Brady and Mason Sharp.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Funeral services were at Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon with Rev. James W. Jones officiating. Interment will be held privately at Mt. Hope Memorial Gardens, Livonia.

Memorial donations may be made to Bambi Memorial Fund, PO Box 487, Roscommon MI 48653.
