Anthony ‘Harold’ Johnson of Houghton Lake Heights

Anthony “Harold” Johnson, 89, of Houghton Lake Heights, passed away January 10, 2017 at home with his family by his side.

He was born on February 28, 1927 in Detroit to Howard and Catherine (Kavanaugh) Johnson. He served in the Coast Guard during the end of WW II. On November 25, 1948 in East Detroit he married Joan Catherine Maxwell. The couple moved from Warren to Houghton Lake in 2000, where they had maintained a home since the 1970s.

Mr. Johnson was employed as a salesman in the auto parts industry for most of his working years. He was a member of St James Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and Houghton Lake Eagles.

Surviving are his daughter, Katherine (Robert) Delicato of Shelby Twp.; three sons, Richard (Pat) of Marlette, John of Houghton Lake Heights, and Howard (Patricia) of Warren; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Also surviving are brother, James (Karen) of CA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joan; son, Charles; brother, Paul; and two sisters, Lorraine Breitscuh, and Anna Mae Willey.

Memorial services for Anthony Harold Johnson will be conducted in Shelby Township at a later date. Interment will be in St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery, Utica.

Memorial contributions in memory of Harold are asked to be directed to Mid Michigan Hospice. Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel is serving the family.
