Sydney (Syd) Dyer Jr. of Florida, formerly of Roscommon

Sydney (Syd) Dyer Jr. passed away December 9, 2016 at the age 93 at the Physicians Regional Hospital in Naples, FL.

He was born on December 8, 1923 to Sydney Dyer Sr. and Ruby (Richardarson) Dyer in Lansing. He moved to Roscommon at the age of four and graduated from Roscommon High School at the age of 16. He served during WWII in the Army Airforce as a radar observer on the Black Widow Night Fighter and then attended Michigan State College where he received a degree in Geology.

Mr. Dyer was employed by the Department of Conservation from 1954 and retired as the Regional Geologist, Roscommon Office Department of Natural Resources in 1984 supervising the regulation of gas and oil wells across the Michigan Niagran Trend that are spread across the northwestern portion of the lower peninsula.

An avid hunter, Syd traveled widely including trips to Africa.

He is survived by his son, Richard Dyer Szwajka.

A memorial service will be conducted in Roscommon and will be announced at a later date.
