Theodore Richard Potter of Houghton Lake

Theodore Richard Potter, 80, of Houghton Lake passed away September 11, 2016 at Munson Health Care Grayling Hospital.

He was born on December 28, 1935 in Charlevoix to Richard and Christine (Klooster) Potter. He grew up in the Charlevoix area, graduating from Charlevoix High School in 1953 and served in the Army from 1959 to 1961. On August 27, 1977 in East Jordan he and Doris Marie Anthony were united in marriage.

Mr. Potter’ employment included being a factory worker in Charlevoix, a Schwan’s salesman in East Jordan and Gaylord area, and when moving to Houghton lake in 1994, he was employed by Walmart for several years. He enjoyed playing softball in the Petoskey and Charlevoix area, was an avid golfer, and kept busy with woodworking.

Surviving are his loving wife of 39 years, Doris Marie Potter of Houghton Lake; two daughters, Debbie Woodward of Charlevoix, and Jackie (James) Towsley of Charlevoix; two sons, Kevin Potter of Charlevoix, and Keith (Kristen) Potter of Grand Rapids; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three step-sons, Alan Rolls of FL, Thomas (Barb) Rolls of Houghton Lake, and Richard(Amy) Rolls of Harrison; and step-daughter, Janice McNeill of Houghton Lake.

Also surviving are a brother, Robert Potter of Charlevoix; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings.

Visitation is September 15 Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Bryan Thompson officiating.

Memorial contributions in memory of Ted are asked to be directed to Munson Hospice.

Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel is serving the family.
