James Joseph ‘Joe’ Carter of Higgins Lake

James Joseph “Joe” Carter passed away peacefully June 25, 2016, surrounded by family.

He was born on January 6, 1934 in Flint to John and Florence (Adams) Carter.He served as an SP-2 in the Army from 1955 to 1957.

Mr. Carter was employed for many years as a tool and die maker by General Motors. In 2002, he moved from Oakland County to the Higgins Lake area. He loved working on and tinkering with cars and had built several houses for friends and family members since his retirement.

His deep love of family and gentle, generous spirit touched the lives of many people who will miss him deeply.

He is the father of Bruce (Cindy) Carter of Brick, NJ, Philip (Barbara) Carter of Clawson and Dean (Carol) Carter of Evansville, IN; beloved grandfather of Sarah, Erin, Scott, Alex, Tori and Shawn; and much loved great-grandfather of Emily, Lucas and Hudson.

Also, he is the dear brother of John (Ann Marie) Carter of TN, Glen (Judy) Carter of Howell, Barbara (Bruce) Wood of Higgins Lake, Michael (Linda) Carter, Higgins Lake and the late Jean Schultz, Darlene Miller, and Acquilla Walton, and loving companion of Bonnie Klenke.

Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Mr. Carter’s life will be conducted June 29 at 11:00 a.m., at the Higgins Lake Baptist Church, 7461 W. Higgins Lake Road, Roscommon, with Pastor Kenneth R. Marsh officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan,830 S. Otsego Avenue, Gaylord, MI 49735, or charity of your choice.
