ROSCOMMON- The Friends of the Roscommon Area District Library (RADL) is excited to highlight the library’s celebration of the 10-year anniversary of the building’s dedication. A weeklong schedule of events is planned to showcase and mimic RADL’s cornucopia of activities on tap throughout the year for visitors of all ages.
Kicking off the week on Tues., June 4, starting at 10 a.m., visitors will be greeted with welcoming treats. The “Lord of the Gourd”, Patrick Harrison, will be carving his amazing pieces from 1-3 p.m. and at 4:30 p.m. John Theil, Dean of Liberal Arts at KCC, will rock the library with his Michigan music history tour.
On Wed., June 5, the RADL Board will offer welcoming treats at a 10 a.m. “Meet and Greet” accompanied by the piano stylings of “Elegant June”. At 4 p.m., adults can enjoy book painting with creative Cathy Spencer.
The Friends will offer morning coffee and goodies on Thurs., June 6 at 10 a.m., Later in the day, at 3 p.m., acclaimed Michigan author, Bonnie Jo Campbell, (Once Upon a River, The Waters) will speak underscored by a rousing ukulele tribute from RADL’s own Ukulele Club.
Fri., June 7 features the Family Fun Bubble Dance Party at 10:30 a.m. and at 1 p.m., movie goers can enjoy popcorn and a viewing of “The Book Thief”.
If that isn’t enough, Sat., June 8 brings Michigan children’s author and illustrator, Ruth McNally to RADL at 10:30 a.m. for a children’s drawing session by reservation. Please contact the library to reserve your child’s spot.
All week long, visitors may get a guided tour of the library from Friends of RADL docents, souvenir bookmarks and chances to enter a drawing for the RADL 10th Building Anniversary gift basket. The winner will be drawn on Sat., June 8 at noon and a special anniversary cake will be served.
The Friends of RADL, formed in 2010 to help promote a fledgling library. It has proudly functioned as a non-profit, charitable group whose mission is to promote the development of excellent library services for all patrons through fundraising, advocacy and volunteerism and is also a member of the Michigan Friends of Libraries.
This local group of over 100 women and men is composed of friendly neighbors, full-time residents and “snow-birds” who share a fondness for the Roscommon Area District Library. Meetings are held monthly on the second Tuesday at noon from May through December.
