Trial date set for Prudenville man charge with stalking county administrator

ROSCOMMON – Evan Baker, 32, of Prudenville, recently appeared in the 82nd District Court for a Pre-Trial Hearing. He faces charges of Stalking and Using a Computer to Commit a Crime, both of which are misdemeanors carrying a maximum penalty of one year in prison. The court has scheduled his trial for April 2024.

Baker stands accused of sending hundreds of private emails to the Roscommon County administrator / controller over several years. These emails were unrelated to her official duties. On August 14, 2023, the administrator/controller instructed Baker to cease sending non-work-related emails. However, despite this warning, Baker continued to send more than 50 emails on that very day and even left two voicemails. His email barrage persisted until his arrest on Oct. 6, 2023.

Michigan Attorney Dana Nessel emphasized the importance of defending public officials from harassment and stalking. She said that while public servants should remain accessible to the public, such malicious misuse of communication channels cannot be tolerated. Stalking can inflict severe harm on the victim, and it may escalate to threats against their safety. Dana Nessel pledged to prosecute such incessant harassment to the fullest extent of the law.

Baker’s Final Pre-Trial hearing is set for February 6, 2024, with the trial itself scheduled to commence on April 4, 2024.
