Man charged after threatening neighbors with firearm

HOUGHTON LAKE – On the evening of April 17, Roscommon County deputies were sent to Roscommon Township residence for a report of a felonious assault. During an ongoing neighbor dispute, a suspect allegedly brandished a hand gun from his waistband, pointing it at his neighbors, and threatened to kill them.

The suspect a 63-year-old male continue to act very aggressively with deputies after they arrived. Additional deputies arrived along with the officers from the Denton Township Police Department. Deputies evacuated the victims from the residence and set up a perimeter around the suspect’s home, attempting to persuade him to surrender voluntarily. He would not comply with officers and began threatening and displayed weapons toward them.

The response team was eventually able to place the subject in custody as the standoff took seven hours. He was later taken into custody and transported by EMS personnel for medical treatment.

The suspect remains incarcerated in the Roscommon County Jail. He has been charged by Roscommon County Prosecutor Michael Edwards, with two counts of felonious assault. The suspect is pending arraignment in 82nd District Court.

Assisting were the Northern, Michigan Mutual Aid Response, Team, the Denton Township, Police Department, Houghton Lake EMS, Roscommon Township Fire Department, and the Roscommon County Victim Services Office.
