Rumor has it: Roscommon Village updates April 2023

ROSCOMMON- Village Manager, Ron Alden, spoke with residents at a “Mornings with the Manager” meeting recently, to share some exciting plans currently in process for the village. “Mornings with the Manager” is an informal question and answer session.

Due to the procurement of several grants, the Hiawatha Project will begin this spring. Plans for the property include the demolition of the former residence on the property and building a gazebo in its place. Additional plans included two restrooms, vending machines, temporary shelter from inclement weather, locations for food vendors, kayak and canoe docks, and a handicapped accessible bridge to Wallace Park across the river.

Paved parking is also proposed, in order to provide a more user friendly and handicapped accessible facility. Some minor dredging needs to be done to the pond area, where it joins to the AuSable River. Stop by the village offices to check out blueprints for the Hiawatha Project.

Alden also remarked on how the river had previously been redirected and plans for a historical plaque explaining the reason, is to be placed in the area.

The former Impact Office Supply building has been sold. The interior is currently under renovation, and in process of reconstruction into additional offices. All current offices including the Chamber and Up North Voice, as well as the quilt shop will remain where they are in the building.

Our famous local tilted building, the former Tin Fish Restaurant and bar, plus adjoining BC Pizza are planned for demolition this fall. Alden stated current plans are for a restaurant and bar, with rear drive through area, as well as accommodations for both indoor and outdoor dining. The developer is also considering lodging to be included on a second level. The projected completion date is for spring 2024.

Attendees questioned about progress on the Uncommonly Good building and its upper level. Alden stated there had been little damage to the lower level during the recent fire. Plans are that they would reopen soon, and perhaps include ice cream and other special offerings. The owners also have some ideas for changes to the former upstairs apartment.

Chase Bank will be auctioned April 3-5. There are some interested parties, and depending on who purchases the property, well, rumor has it…

“Mornings With the Manager” are held the third Thurs. of the month at the Village Hall. These coffee sessions begin at 9 a.m. and last approximately one hour. Stop by to check out more plans or share your ideas for the village. All are welcome.
