OSCODA COUNTY- Welcome summertime! Although we still have some chilly nights happening, the days are warmer and brighter. There is green all around us and the flowers are coming out. Be sure to let a little fresh air in, or if you can, step outside for a little while. Just sitting on the porch or taking a short walk and enjoying some sunshine or a light breeze can uplift how we feel. Take in as much of the beautiful weather and growth going on as you can.
Father’s Day is on June 15 this year. Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there and to the moms who have had to be both.
I have had many calls and people stopping in to ask about Project Fresh this year. The program is being changed over this year to digital. This means applications will need to be filled out online, and no more coupons. They will be mailing out cards to you once you have registered online and you will use the card at the usual Farmer’s markets and stores that have signed up to work with the program this year. As with a lot of new things, this changeover is taking longer than anticipated. I have been told that applications will now go live on June 1.
I will be posting updates on our Oscoda County Council on Aging Facebook page to let you know of any more changes that arise. At this point I will not even be able to see an application until they go live. Once it is available, I will be here to help those who need it to get registered online so your cards can be mailed out to you. So, watch our page on FB, or give the Senior Center a call to see if things are ready to go after June 1. We will be learning and figuring out the new system together!
The food pick-ups happening this month are the CSFP (senior cheese box) and will be happening on Fri., June 13, at 12 p.m. at the Tri-Point Church of God. The Together We Can Food Pantry will be on Thurs., June 26 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. They ask that you bring ID to show you live in the county and a banana box if you have one. If they run out of food, they will be gone before 2:30. This pick-up happens at the fairgrounds.
The Council’s Board meeting will be on Mon., June 9, at 1 p.m. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
June’s full moon, also called the Strawberry Moon, will be beautifully shining on the 11th. It will reach its peak at 3:44 a.m., hope you get to see it! Don’t forget to be grateful daily. Have a spectacular month and keep smiling!
