TAWAS – Iosco County Sheriff Scott Frank said in a release today the department has arrested a suspect in the armed robbery of Miner’s Grove Party Store in Baldwin Township on Feb. 9.

Deputies were dispatched to the store, located at 500 Wilbert Road, about 5:08 p.m. Upon arrival deputies determined the clerk was held up at gun point by an unknown female. The suspect forced the clerk to open the cash register, where she removed an undisclosed amount of cash and checks.

The suspect then fled the scene in a dark blue minivan. The vehicle was last seen headed south on Monument Road towards the city of East Tawas.

After social media posts about the incident, multiple tips were received at the sheriff’s office, Iosco County Central Dispatch, and the Oscoda Township Police Department.

Information from those tips helped narrow the suspect’s location, as well as the site of the suspect’s vehicle, a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country Mini Van, which was found abandoned in East Tawas.

A search warrant was requested and issued by the Iosco County Prosecutor’s Office and 81st District Court. As a result, members of the Oscoda Township Police Department and the Michigan State Police were able to take the suspect into custody without incident in the early morning hours of Feb. 10. Additional warrants were executed, and more evidence was found tying the suspect to this crime.

Frank said in his release the suspect, who has not been publicly identified, was lodged in the Iosco County Jail. The suspect is expected to be charged with armed robbery and other offenses.

“This incident would not have been concluded as fast as it was without the community’s assistance,” he said. “And the close working relationships we have between all Iosco County police agencies.”

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Michigan State Police, Oscoda Township Police Department, US Forest Service-Law Enforcement, East Tawas Police Department, Tawas City Police Department, S.T.I.N.G. and Iosco County Central Dispatch.
