Plainfield Township Supervisor’s corner – July

By Fred Lewis, Supervisor

Well, another great 4th of July celebration is in the books.  The parade was fantastic, the weather was wonderful, and the fireworks were again spectacular.  Thanks to all that took part and helped make this day as great as it was.

If you read my Corner, you know that frequently I “talk up” our community about how supportive and close-knit we are. I have never seen this more apparent than at the recent dinner for Frankie Chrivia.  On June 24, at the Legion Hall in Hale, our community came together by the hundreds to show their support for Frankie and his family in their battle against brain cancer.  The giving, the caring, the support, the love that existed in that hall during that dinner was visible and tangible.  The family knows that they are far from alone in this battle and thank each and every person that has helped them along the way during this war they are waging.

Now on to more mundane things, zoning and building permits.  Zoning permits are required for any structure that you bring onto your property, whether you build it or have it delivered, a zoning permit is required.  If you fail to get a zoning permit prior to having a structure brought or built on your property, you are liable for a fine and any costs that may be required if you need to relocate the structure due to a zoning violation.  The cost is only $20 and takes 5 minutes to get right in our offices. Building permits are required for any structure over 200 square feet.  All of this information, including our Zoning Ordinance and permit applications, is available on our website www.plainfieldtwpmi.com.

We are working on getting a brochure around that maps the parks and their amenities. We have an extensive list of facilities for Long Lake Park, Loon Lake Park, Chain Lake Park and Plainfield Park. You can take a local break and enjoy these parks, the hidden gems of the community.

The new Michigan State Police Hale Detachment is not a manned office.  You may not be allowed in without an appointment.  If you need immediate assistance, call 911 and they will direct you. For an appointment call the West Branch MSP desk at 989- 345-0956.

The waste site is open Mon., Wed., Fri., and Sat., from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Sun. from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. We are open on Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day.

Our Garden Club has begun their season of work. They are always looking for anyone interested in assisting them in caring for our planters in the downtown. The people to contact are Kim Kocher at 989-899-1066, or Bev Mason at 989-305-8823.  I want to thank these hard-working volunteers for what they give to keep our community looking beautiful.

As always if you ever have any questions, comments or concerns regarding our community please contact me.  I am in the office Mon. – Fri. 7:30 a.m.  – 4 p.m. You can reach me at 989-728-2811, Or feel free to call my cell at 989-984-7073. .
