Crawford COA: Announcements and activities for April 2023

Volunteers Needed

Most of the Meals on Wheels are delivered by volunteer drivers.  Dial-A-Ride currently delivers meals north of Grayling to the Frederic area.  We need volunteers to take over this route, which would save us $3,600 annually.  Do you like to drive?  Make a difference every week by delivering meals to our older adults who struggle to maintain themselves at home.  Mileage reimbursement of $0.40 per mile is provided along with detailed orientation.  Join our team!

To find out more about any of these opportunities or to sign up call Alice Snyder at 989-348-7123.

Alzheimer’s Support Group

The Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center, in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Association – Greater Michigan Chapter, offers a support group for friends and caregivers of people who have Alzheimer or other related dementias.  This support group is designed to provide an outlet for caregivers to talk, share, get support, learn coping skills, and get education about these dementias.  Conducted by trained facilitator, Sherry Haag, meetings take place on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at the Brook of Grayling, 503 Rose St. at 11 a.m. There is no charge to attend this group.  If you are unable to leave your loved one alone, Respite Care services are available by contacting the Commission on Aging at (989) 348-7123.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Sat., Apr. 22.  This is a great time to dispose of prescription medications cluttering your cabinets. Medicines no longer being used may pose grave and unnecessary dangers to families and the people visiting their homes. Drugs flushed down toilets also pose an environmental risk as they may eventually find their way into ground water, contaminating it.  Expired or unused medications can be taken to one of 4 disposal sites in Grayling: City Hall located at 1020 City Blvd (Available 24-hours), Crawford County Sheriff’s Department located at 200 W. Michigan Ave. (Available 24-hours), the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy at 500 James Street in Grayling during business hours, and the Medsafe bin in the Munson Healthcare Grayling Hospital lobby.
