Troopers’ efforts to reduce fatal crashes and injuries sees positive results

GAYLORD – When determining their strategic plans for 2022, MSP posts in northern Michigan identified areas of high traffic crashes and fatalities to step up their traffic enforcement to reduce those numbers.

The preliminary numbers from August 2022 show a down-trend in fatal crashes and injuries. Preliminary reports indicate there were two fatal crashes in northern Michigan during the month of August. Compared to the August 2021 data showing 14 fatal crashes, that is an 85% reduction. There were 144 reported injury crashes in August 2022. When compared to the 209 injury crashes in August 2021, that is a 31% reduction.

As we enter the Labor Day Weekend, troopers across northern Michigan are stepping up their traffic enforcement efforts to reduce crashes and fatalities. We want everyone to enjoy the last holiday weekend by buckling up, driving the posted speed limit, avoiding distractions, and never drive under the influence.
