Range report and firing schedule: November 15-21

GRAYLING – This week, this week there is no scheduled range activity, as the opening day of firearms deer season begins November 15th. The good news is that all exterior roads and trails from south camp to Range 40 are open and available.

Where should I hunt? For starters, no hunting is allowed on Camp Grayling ranges or in the Hanson State Game Refuge.

Local hunters should check with local DNR offices in Gaylord, Grayling, Kalkaska, and Roscommon, or check the michigan.gov/dnr website to ensure the area you choose is an area open to hunting. Once at the web site, the DNR’s application called MiHUNT shows approximate boundaries of lands open to public hunting, including both public hunting land as well as private land open to the public for hunting. For more details see the link below:

November 8th & 9th Camp Grayling hosted a bow hunt for disabled veterans, sponsored by the Wild Turkey Federation (WTF) and supported by the DNR. The bow hunt produced two bucks and four does and was deemed a success. The disabled veterans hunt is expected to repeat next year with additional support added by WTF and volunteers.

Finally, we say thank you to every Service Member who has worn the uniform of the United States military in service to our great Nation. I had an opportunity to speak to members of the Grayling VFW and American Legion on Veteran’s Day. VFW Commander Leonard Nemeth coordinated a fitting patriotic event that incorporated Grayling high school’s choir singing the National Anthem, a 21-Gun Salute, and Taps played by GHS band students. Additionally, MAJ Cliff Mayhew from Camp Grayling addressed Veterans of the Gaylord VFW Post, Commanded by Ron Lebourdais.

There’s always a lot happening on Camp Grayling. To find out more search @campgraylingmi on Facebook. Good luck to all those hunters and stay safe out there. HOOAH!
