ROSCOMMON COUNTY— On April 7 at approximately 12:20 a.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police Houghton Lake Post conducted a traffic stop on northbound I-75 in Richfield Township. The stop was initiated after troopers received a tip that the driver had open intoxicants in the vehicle and observed additional traffic violations.

A preliminary investigation indicates that during the stop, troopers observed an open bottle of Crown Royal inside a Burger King bag on the passenger seat. A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted, resulting in the seizure of approximately 831 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 168 grams of cocaine, 21 grams of crack cocaine, 277 grams of Xanax bars, 136 grams of fentanyl pills, 27 morphine pills and one handgun.

The driver, 41-year-old Stephen Young of Walled Lake, was arrested and lodged at the Roscommon County Jail without incident.

“Thank you to the community member who provided this tip to law enforcement,” said Lt. Ashley Miller. “Because of this information, troopers were able to interdict a large amount of narcotics being transported to northern Michigan for distribution, and they also removed a driver in possession of open alcohol from the roadways. This enforcement effort may have saved many lives.”
