IOSCO COUNTY – An AuSable Township woman was arraigned on multiple charges after she allegedly murdered her husband.
According to a statement from Iosco County Prosecuting Attorney James A. Bacarella, Melissa Christine Ragen with homicide – open murder and felony firearm.
Ragen faces a possible life sentence for open murder and an additional two years in prison for felony firearm. She is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
According to authorities, at approximately 10:56 p.m. Oct. 6, Ragen was at her home in AuSable Township with her husband. In statements to investigators, she said the couple was arguing when she retrieved a .357-caliber revolver and shot him in the chest.
Iosco County emergency personnel and Oscoda Township police attempted lifesaving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at 11:13 p.m.
Ragen was arraigned in 81st District Court for Iosco County this morning and plead not guilty to the charges. She is being held without bond due to the severity of the allegations.
A probable cause conference is scheduled for Oct. 14 at 9 a.m., followed by a preliminary hearing scheduled for Oct. 28 at 3 p.m.
The Iosco County Prosecutor’s Office thanked the Oscoda Township Police Department and Iosco County EMS for their work in the case.
