JOHANNESBURG – A little kindness can go a long way.
Recently, a Michigan State Police trooper went above and beyond to lend a hand to a local student and his family—thanks to the efforts of the State Trooper Outreach Partnership (S.T.O.P.) Gaylord Chapter.
While coaching in the community, S.T.O.P. board member Nathan Lawes learned that one of his student athletes and their family were struggling to stay mobile—relying on a small air compressor to inflate leaking tires just to get to school, practice, work, and the store.
Determined to help, the S.T.O.P. Gaylord Chapter partnered with Walmart of Gaylord to purchase four brand-new all-weather tires for the family’s vehicle. The result? Reliable transportation, peace of mind, and a powerful reminder that this community takes care of its own.
S.T.O.P. is a non-profit powered by local donations and members of the Michigan State Police. Its biggest fundraiser of the year is a golf outing scheduled for Aug. 1 at Otsego Resort, located at 696 E. M-32 in Gaylord. Cost is $500 per four-person team. Food, contests and door prizes throughout the event.
